Varsity Badminton vs. Emma Willard: W 6-1
Recap: Undefeated this season, Porter's badminton won a convincing final match victory over Emma Willard to post a final record of 12-0. From one end of the ladder to the other, the caliber of play has been really impressive, with vast personal improvement across the board. A wonderful group of individuals, it has been a great pleasure to coach this team. I appreciate the combination of respect, determination, and sense of humor that they have brought to each and every practice/match.

Varsity Field Hockey vs. Hotchkiss: L 0-7
Recap: Porter's did their best against the strength of Hotchkiss last Wednesday. The defense focused on quick feet and tenacious clears to hold off the Hotchkiss offense. Goalkeeper Kami Vigilant '20 had a number of successful blocks against numerous, powerful shots coming in from the top of the circle. Adi Janlinskas '18 showed great versatility and fitness by moving into the midfield. Meanwhile, Maya Butensky '18, Player of the Game, had an exceptional game both offensively and defensively. Most notably, Caroline Ma '19 (also Player of the Game) stepped up to place her best yet on the right wing, with some well-controlled receptions and speedy, aggressive forward movement.

Varsity Soccer vs. Hotchkiss: T 1-1
Recap: According to current WWNEPSSA rankings, Porters (#4) welcomed Hotchkiss (#2) to Kiki's field on a wet Wednesday afternoon. In a highly competitive first half Porter's made two defensive errors and while they got away with the first they were not as lucky as the impressive Hotchkiss forward made no mistake from just inside the area to put them 1-0 up at half time
The second half saw the girls in green ask more questions of Hotchkiss and created more opportunities in the final third. 7 minutes into the second half Laura Gouvin '21 played in Olivia Grommers '18 who found herself 1 on 1 with the keeper but the tight angle proved too difficult for Grommers '18 to tie the game up. 10 minutes later Porter's was awarded a PK but the Hotchkiss Keeper pulled off a good save to keep the score at 1-0. With 20 minutes remaining Gouvin '20 put in a deep free-kick that saw Sydni Scott '18 guide the ball into the far corner and put the game at 1-1. Even though 1-1 is a good result, Porter's had the momentum and with a little extra time felt that the winning goal was a real possibility.

Varsity Cross Country @ Founders League Championships: 6th Place
Recap: The Porter's cross country team ran in the Founder's League Championship at Hotchkiss on Saturday. The runners all had an excellent race with many of them achieving their personal best for the season. Alexandra Poole '20 placed 3rd overall in the race and the team placed 6th out of 9 teams.
Varsity Field Hockey vs. Pomfret: L 0-5
Recap: Porter's was forced to play a defensive game against Pomfret this weekend. Porter's had a much better second half than the first. After regrouping during the halftime huddle, the team developed a new defensive strategy, which was effective in breaking down considerably more of the Pomfret breakaways. Players of the game were Audrey McMillan '20 for her tenacious and accurate defensively play, GK Kami Vigilant '20 for incredible blocks, and Grace Bergin '19 for making adjustments to her play and re-entering the game with renewed confidence and skill in the second half. Another notable player was Margaret Petersen '19, who came very close to scoring a couple of times as she hustled to meet the ball at the opponent's goalie pads.
Varsity Soccer vs. Choate: T 1-1
Recap: Porter's Varsity soccer played at Choate on Saturday afternoon in a difficult environment. Less than three minutes into the game Carlyn Kosienski '19 scored a free kick from 30+ yards out. Only minutes later a handball was wrongly called in the box and Choate took their PK well to even up the scores. Choate had the better of the play in the first half and although the girls in green defended well they did not give a good account of themselves when in possession.
Choate had two good opportunities in the 2nd half, but as the game wore on Porter's looked dangerous on the counter and Sydni Scott '18 had the best chance as she beat two Choate defenders and shot just wide when 12 yards out. It was a good battle and a good point in the end against a team that is at the top of Class A at this moment.
