Recap: It was a beautiful afternoon for our first home match of the season. Players were evenly matched on many courts, and it was not clear how the match would go while players battled it out in long points. In the end, Pomfret took the majority of the matches. Sarah Wagner '20 (#1 singles) showed her strength on the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Marjorie "Mojo" Plants '21 (#3 singles) maintained a consistent, focused effort throughout her match. She took the first set in a battle for the tiebreaker and won the second set somewhat more decisively. In doubles, Anna Wight '18 and Jenn Hehn '18 had the closest match. Varsity Softball vs. Northfield Mt. Hermon: W 6-5

Recap: On an unseasonably warm day in April, Porter's softball hosted Northfield Mount Herman for an exciting game. Porter's had 6 very strong innings both defensively and offensively. We scored 4 in the first 3 innings, led by sophomore Julianna Diamantis and junior Jess Sardilli. Freshman D'vine Straughter also had a great game at the plate, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Leading 4-1 in the top of the 7th, we needed 3 outs to seal the game, but unfortunately, 2 errors and 3 hits allowed NMH to take the lead for the first time in the game. We were down to our last out in the bottom of the 7th when Straughter '21 had a great at-bat and was able to get on with a slap base hit. She was followed by another hit by Diamantis '20 and then senior captain Gaelen Carroll drove in Straughter '21 to tie the game. Due to International tie-breaking rules, each team started with a runner on 2nd for extra innings. Porter's defense held in the top of the 8th. J. Sardilli '19 started at second in the bottom of the 8th and sophomore Lucinda De Laney had a base hit to lead off the inning, moving J. Sardilli '19 to 3rd. With no outs, sophomore Charlotte Whalen hit a hard ground ball to second, giving J. Sardilli '19 enough time to score and win the game. Although we gave up the lead in the 7th, Porter's fought hard all game long and bested NMH.

Roanna Zou '19 and Audrey Palmeri '18 both fought hard in singles matches before succumbing at the end of their pro sets. In doubles, Sarah Wagner and Audrey Palmeri got off to a slow start but made a significant comeback. It was a competitive, fast-paced match.
