Wednesday, April 18

Varsity Golf vs. Greenwich Academy: L 2-3

Varsity Golf vs. Hotchkiss: L 0-5

Recap: The Hotchkiss golf course snakes around the school's campus, rising and falling suddenly as it follows the area's hills. On the best of days, it is a challenging course. Yesterday, was cold, grey, and windy. So, not the best of days. And yet, Porter's played focused, disciplined, and solid golf. With excuses easy to come by, the Porter's players instead played each shot to the best of their ability and ended the day with some good scores.

Varsity Lacrosse vs. Gunnery: L 4-6

Recap: After a long drive to Washington, CT, Porter's lacrosse came out flat to start our game against Gunnery, With a score 1-4 at the end of the first half Porter's stepped it up as the walked on to the field at the second half with determination and grit. After tying it up 4-4 with 8 minutes left in the game Porter's just could not finish and Gunnery ran away with it for a final score of 4-6. Cricket Barnes '19 scored 2 goals and Lila Conners '20 and Adi Jalinskas '18 each scored one. Sofie Brandt '19 made 4 saves on the day.

Varsity Tennis vs. Ethel Walker: W 7-2

Recap: Albeit chilly, the sun warmed the courts enough for a fun match against Ethel Walker. Each match was competitive and congenial, and the challenge for the Porter's players was rewarding. Playing #1 singles, Sarah Wagner '20 played consistently but with strength against her opponent, whose winners were beautiful and who pushed Wagner '20 to earn every point. It was a great match for spectators. Co-captains Roanna Zou '19 (#2) and Audrey Palmeri '18 (#3) both had to adjust to the particular challenges their opponents posed, and once they did, they each surpassed their opponent to win their match. Marjorie Plants '21 (#4) and Nitya Shah '20 (#6) both played smart tennis that tested their endurance. In doubles, #1 Palmeri '18 and Wagner '20 took some time to figure out the best strategy in the first few games, but when they did, they played smart and strong and took the match. #2 Anna Wight '18 and Sofia Gonzales '18 went on the court energized and focused, and they didn't give their opponents much of a chance to catch up.

Varsity Ultimate vs. Northfield Mt. Hermon: L 1-15

Recap: Porter's Ultimate traveled to Northfield Mount Hermon for an afternoon game. Unfortunately, the Porter's crew found themselves outmatched against a more experienced, more athletic NMH squad. Porter's was able to score late in the match, as Senior Olivia Luppino took a pass in the end zone from Junior Lilli Aferzon.

Friday, April 20

Varsity Lacrosse vs. Pomfret: L 4-10

Recap: After a long ride through Hartford traffic Porter's came out flat at the start of the Pomfret game. After about 10 minutes Porter's began to find their rhythm. Lila Conners '20 scored 3 goals and Cricket Barnes '19 scored 1. Each goal was assisted by Evelyn Lewis '18, Elizabeth Muller 19', Victoria Lima '19, and Audrey McMillan '20. Conners '20 and Natalie Godoy '21 dominated the draw in the second half.

Saturday, April 21

Varsity Tennis vs. Northfield Mt. Hermon: L 2-7

Recap: It was our first warm day of the season, and the team was happy to be playing on the home courts. Sarah Wagner '20 led the team in wins. In #1 doubles, Wagner '20 and Audrey Palmeri '18 fought an intense battle for the pro set. With a tiebreaker at 7-7, the match couldn't have been closer, but Porter's came out of that match victorious. In singles, Wagner '20 traded powerful groundstrokes with her opponent and gave the spectators a fun match to watch. In #2 doubles, Sofia Gonzalez '18 and Marjorie Plants '21 played smart, strong doubles together for the first time. Their best efforts to communicate and play to their strengths made the match a close one, but they eventually succumbed to their opponents.

Varsity Ultimate vs. Northfield Mt. Hermon: W 5-3
