Weekly Recap: 5/9-5/14

Monday, May 9
Varsity Lacrosse vs. Ethel Walkers: W 18-17
Recap: While Porter's came out to a slow start they never gave up. Walker's took a 3-0 lead to start the game but Porter's spent most of the first half chipping away at the initial deficit and were able to pull ahead to finish the first half with a solid lead of 11-7. The second half was just as stressful as the first. Porter's maintained its lead for a few minutes but Walker's was clearly not giving up and fought back to tie it 13-13. From there Porter's and Walker's went goal for goal, never allowing Walker's to pull ahead. Porter's dominated the draw with the help of Aleks Jalinskas '16 (5), Adi Jalinskas '18 (4), Annie Buenaventura '17 (4), Belle Patalino '17 (3), and Maddie Koval '17 (1). Jalinskas was a force to be reckoned with on both defense and attack putting away seven goals. Patalino was also a dominate force on attack scoring six goals for Porter's. Jalinskas '18 put three away while Buenaventura and Koval put one away each. Olivia Grommers '18 dominated the ground with four GB's. Brandt '19 was a brick wall in the goal coming up with 15 huge saves for Porter's!

Varsity Softball vs. Canterbury: W 10-3
Recap: While some teams do not perform well after a long bus ride, the Porter's softball team once again rose to the occasion and brought home a well deserved win. While Porter's was retired in order in the first inning, and Canterbury scored in the bottom of the first, Porter's then evened the score when Hannah Zukowski '17 scored after hitting a single, advanced on a passed ball and then scored when Gaelen Carroll '18 put the ball into play. Canterbury scored one run again in the third inning. The top of the fourth brought in five runs for Porter's. Maya Silva-Thompson '17 drove in Jessica Sardilli '19, who reached on an error followed by Zukowski, who scored when Gaelen Carroll '18 put the ball into play. De'Jah Jennings '17 reached first on a walk and later scored when Karen Umutoni '17 hit a solid double up the middle. Umutoni was able to score off of a single hit by Sardilli. Canterbury scored one in the fifth. Margaret Kassel '17 hit a single in the sixth inning, moved to second then Lillian Parrotta '18 put the ball into play. Sardilli reached on a walk loading the bases and Carroll put the ball into play for an RBI, followed by Tiara Do '19 doing the same and giving Porter's an 8 - 3 lead after six. Kassel hit a second single in the seventh and scored when Sardilli hit the ball hard. Parrotta reached on a walk and then scored then Zukowski put the ball into play.
