Varsity Badminton vs. East Hartford High School: W 7-0
Recap: Porter's badminton swept all matches --singles and doubles-- on the way to a 7-0 victory over East Hartford High School. All matches were straight set victories. Most impressive was the performance of Co-Capt. Shushu Fang '18 and Michelle Choi '19, two players who do not normally play singles competition but who won convincing victories in both singles and doubles, with Fang '18 teaming up with Porter's "Athlete of the Week," Nitya Shah '19, and Choi '19 joining forces with new girl Junior Veronica Pereira '19.Varsity Field Hockey vs. Suffield: L 1-6

Varsity Soccer vs. Suffield: W 4-0
Recap: Suffield started brightly and were unfortunate to go a goal behind only 4 minutes into the game when Katie Konin '19 played a dangerous ball into Carlyn Kosienski '19 who rolled her marker and finished well from 18 yards. Within a few minutes after the first goal Natalie Godoy '21 finished first time from a Laura Gouvin '20 free kick to put the home team 2-0 up. Kosienski '19 scored her second of the game with a clever finish (from a another Gouvin pass) as the keeper put her under pressure. Naya Lipkens 18' pulled off a good save at the end of the half to preserve the 3-0 lead.

The heat impacted the tempo of the second half and although Porter's entered the attacking third on a number of occasions they couldn't find the final finish or touch to extend the lead. Godoy '21 did manage to score her second of the game as she beat two players before driving the ball into the bottom corner from just inside the 18-yard box.
Konin '19 showed composure with and without the ball and Gouvin '20 showed great energy. Kosienski '19 and Godoy '21 were clinical when called upon and the team can be proud of a 5th shut out in 6 games.
Varsity Volleyball vs. Canterbury: W 3-0
Recap: Varsity volleyball traveled to Canterbury School on Wednesday and came away with a 3-0 win. Porter's capitalized on fast starts in each set to win 25-16, 25-10 and 25-17. Callie Godfrey '20 lead the team offensively with 10 kills, while Sofia Barth '19 had 8 kills and 5 aces. Ellie Whitty '18 got the team off to strong starts in each set, racking up 9 aces on the day. Lucy Taglich '18 came off the bench to provide a strong presence at the net with 2 Kills and 2 Blocks.
Friday, September 29
Varsity Badminton vs. Hamden High: W 6-1
Recap: Porter's badminton faced off against Hamden's mixed gender badminton team for their second encounter of the season. Though Porter's came away with a convincing win, there were a number of close matches.
Facing Hamden's top male player, Nitya Shah '20 rallied after losing the first game in #2 singles to close the gap in very close second game. Shah '20 teamed up with Roanna Zou '19 (who earlier won at #1 singles, as did Simrat Khalsa '19 at #3 singles) to claim the win in #1 doubles. In the other doubles matches #4 team, Joyce Hunag '19 and Veronica Periera '19 won in straight sets, while the #2 Doubles team, Khalsa '19/Annika Philomin '20, and #3 Doubles Team, Damia Rizwan '18/Jolie Nguyen '21, came back after dropping the first game to take the next two games and claim the victory.
Saturday, September 30
Varsity Volleyball vs. Loomis: L 1-3
Recap: Porter's varsity volleyball lost a tough match 1-3 to Loomis Chaffee on Saturday. Porter's came out strong in the first game to capture a 25-22 win. Despite jumping out to a 7-2 lead in game 2, Porter's could not hold on and lost 17-25. Loomis won the 3rd game 14-25 and held a 15-13 lead in a closely contested game 4, before pulling away to win 18-25.
Callie Godfrey '20 lead the offense again with 12 kills and 2 blocks. Sofia Barth '19 picked up her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs while Ellen White '19 added 4 kills and 10 digs. Delaney Nwachukwu '20 had a strong day at the net with 5 kills and a season high 7 blocks.
