Varsity Field Hockey vs. Suffield: L 0-4

Varsity Soccer vs. Suffield: W 3-0
Recap: Varsity soccer was successful in their first away game of the season, taking their record to 6-0. Wednesday afternoon's game was the sixth game in a row where the team has not conceded a goal. On a smaller field and against hardworking opponents Porter's found it difficult to create clear goal scoring opportunities, and instead they found space out wide and in front of their back four. A few opportunities were created and only 10 minutes in Laura Gouvin '20 hit the underside of the bar. Shortly after the same player hit a lofted effort that the keeper failed to deal with and put the girls in green up 1-0. Although Porter's had a lot of possession, the Suffield team was quick to play in their right winger and were close to scoring if it wasn't for a great save from Naya Lipkens '18 and a fantastic goal line clearance from Claire Beath '17. It was a dominant second half display with the back four being protected by Katie Konin '19 and Mackenzie Kievman '18. Cami Beath '17, Olivia Grommers '18 and Gouvin won most of the first and second balls. Carlyn Kosienski '19, Emily Wogelius '17, Kyra Bukowski '18 and Kyla Gallagher '20 were impressive and it was the latter who combined cleverly with Cami Beath before firing into the near post. At 2-0 the girls continued to keep the tempo high and when Kosienski received a pass from Wogelius, she made no mistake in hitting the back of the net from 20 yards out and completing the scoring.

Varsity Volleyball vs. Canterbury: W 3-0
Recap: Porter's gave a strong showing hosting Canterbury at home. Sofia Barth '19 dropped a 6 ace & .455 hitting day, Ellie Witty '18 got 5 digs, and Lorraine Liang '17 passed a 2.62. A sophmore, a junior, and a senior provided team-leading performances in an extremely balanced day on the court for Porter's. New Girls Calie Godfrey '20, Zoe Ireland '20, and Delaney Nwachekwu '20 contributed 2 aces, 3 kills, 3 assists, and 4 digs, showing the future of Porter's is bright as well. Four players passed a 2.0 or better, led by Liang (the other three being Witty, Leila Benmamoun '17, and Victoria Lima '18). Porter's found great contributions from the entire team.

Thursday, September 29
Varsity Badminton vs. East Hartford High: W 6-1
Recap: Porter's swept the singles competition with Nitya Shah '20, Simrat Khalsa '19, and co-captain Ariene Cheng '17 winning in straight sets. The doubles competition was a bit more contested. Though Roanna Zou '19 and co-captain Shushu Fang '18 won in straight sets, the matches of second doubles team, Michelle Choi '19/Annika Philomin '19 Philomin, and third doubles, Joyce Huang '19/Rose Aydin '18, clinched the victory in the third game. The forth doubles team of Sara Park '19/Bella Chan '19 also went to the third game which they lost in a very tight match.

Saturday, October 1
Varsity Field Hockey vs. Greens Farms: L 0-1

Varsity Soccer vs. Hopkins: W 5-0
Recap: A great start to the game saw Laura Gouvin '20 score from the edge of the box by looping the ball over the Hopkins keeper's head. Soon after it was 2-0 as Kyla Gallagher '20 moved the ball at pace from left to right before driving the ball into the corner from 12 yards out. Cami Beath '17's persistence in the 6-yard box was rewarded with a simple tap in to complete the first half scoring. Two very well taken goals from Sydni Scott '18 in the second half made the final score 5-0. Mackenzie Reynolds '19 came in to partner Maddie Duchesneau '18 and helped add the seventh game this season that the team has not conceded a goal. Evelyn Lewis '18 had a solid game at left back and Carlyn Kosienski '19 was a constant threat and outlet for the team. When called upon Naya Lipkens '18 and Jenna Hall '20 showed poise and concentration to contribute to the victory.

Varsity Volleyball vs. Loomis: L 0-3
Recap: After six games of very strong serve receive, Porter's hit a wall against Loomis. The team struggled to pass Loomis's serves, and Loomis missed two serves in the entire match, a remarkable stat especially considering the quality of the serves.

Sunday, October 2
Varsity Crew @ Head of the Riverfront
Recap: Porter's raced three boats this weekend with some amazing conditions out on the course. Hartford hosted competitors form many high schools, colleges, and high level club programs across New England. As our teams first taste at racing this season they managed a very solid start. Our first boat placed 18th in their race, second boat in 15th, and our sculling entry, a double, placed 13th. We have been making some great strides over this first month of training. As a squad we are now looking to build upon our baseline fitness levels to help improve boat speed through the second half of the course. A huge shout out to Olivia Gorman who has yet again competed in this regatta in two seperate events, no easy task.
