A Wii Bowling Match for the Books!

Age was certainly not a factor for the 115 seniors who participated in an annual Wii tournament held at the Bristol Senior Center!

What better way to stay active and inside this winter than participating in a Wii bowling tournament? Age was certainly not a factor for over 100 seniors who participated in an annual Wii tournament held at the Bristol Senior Center. The Residents from Middlewoods Independent and Assisted Living Communities in Farmington and Newington, accompanied by their teammates from the Newington Senior Center, played exceptionally well at this fun-filled event! “The Woodchucks”, as this team is known, is comprised of 14 players, all of whom have been practicing daily for months in preparation of this tournament.

John Buccini, Activities Director at Middlewoods of Newington, explains, “Wii bowling has become a source of great fun for our residents! We practice regularly, travel around to different communities and senior centers, and meet many new friends along the way.” The Middlewoods of Farmington Activities Directors, Tanya Janeczko and Joan Jakiela, agree that the league has been an incredible way to promote friendly competition, community involvement and an active lifestyle for the residents.

The Connecticut Wii Bowling League, organized by Jason Krueger, Assistant Director of the Bristol Senior Center, begins in September and ends with a championship tournament in May. Mary Foley, a resident of Middlewoods of Newington explains, “We’ve been putting a lot of practice into this, which has definitely paid off this season. I’ve really enjoyed it!” Two players from the Middlewoods Independent and Assisted Living communities even made it to the finals in their division at the Bristol Senior Center, clinching the third and fourth spots! The team continues to practice regularly in preparation for the remaining three matches of the season.
