GLASTONBURY, CT — A major road improvement project is set to begin in Glastonbury — at least the first part.

The construction of new sidewalks on Bell Street between Gideon Lane and Bell Ridge Road as well as at the corner of Hebron Avenue and Bell Street is anticipated to start next week, municipal officials said.

The work is part of a town project that is partially funded under the State's Community Connectivity Grant Program.

During the week of Dec. 11, tree removal and trimming operations will begin to clear out the area near the sidewalk paths. The tree work will be followed by the installation of various drainage improvements during the winter months as weather conditions allow, town officials said.

The majority of the construction work will take place in the spring of 2024 with work expected to be completed by July 2024, town officials said. Motorists are advised that alternating one-way traffic patterns will be in effect during the construction operations and that they should expect delays and seek alternate routes.
