GLASTONBURY, CT — Glastonbury town facilities will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, according to a town notice posted May 18. The closure includes Town Hall, Academy, WTML, the Riverfront Community Center, Youth & Family Services, the Transfer Station and the Bulky Waste Facility. The town said facilities will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, May 26.
The holiday also will bring Glastonbury's annual Memorial Day observance. According to the event notice, the Veterans Service Commission will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade with a ceremony to follow on Monday, May 25, 2026. The town notice states, "Over the holiday weekend, we honor all service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country."
The parade is scheduled to step off promptly at 09:00 AM. It will begin at Main Street and Welles Street, then march south down Main Street and proceed past the reviewing stand on Hubbard Street before ending at the monuments on the Green, according to the event information.
After the parade, the Veterans Service Commission will hold a ceremony honoring veterans from Glastonbury who died in service. The event notice says the ceremony will honor "the Veterans from Glastonbury who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country." The Glastonbury Fire Department Color Guard is responsible for advancing and retiring the Colors during the ceremony.
The notice also says there will be a guest speaker. In addition, the names of resident veterans from all wars who gave the ultimate sacrifice will be read, with a bell rung after each name. Taps with an echo will follow, and the Veterans Service Commission Honor Guard will conclude the ceremony with a rifle salute.
Following the ceremony, the Glastonbury Elks in South Glastonbury will hold an open house for anyone who would like to attend, according to the event listing.
The town also announced a backup plan in case of bad weather. According to the event notice, if there is inclement weather, the Veterans Service Commission will hold an assembly at the GHS gym. The notice states, "We will strive to hold the parade except for severe weather and the decision will be made before 08:45 AM."
Residents looking to use town services should plan around the one-day closure. Those planning to attend the observance can expect the parade and ceremony Monday morning, with the weather decision to be made before 08:45 AM if conditions worsen.
