GLASTONBURY, CT - Several businesses in Glastonbury that sell tobacco and/or electronic cigarettes failed a June 16 compliance check, police said.
The detail was conducted with both state compliance officials and youth volunteers. The youths tried to buy the products without showing the proper ID, police said.
Police said a half-dozen establishments failed the test - Delta Food Land at 3041 Main St.; Mobil Mart at 2997 Main St.; Bro Vapor at 229 Hebron Ave.; Fine Cigars at 361 New London Turnpike; The Country Store at 2187 New London Turnpike; and South Side Wine & Spirits Shoppe at 1 Water St.
Police said twice that number wound up being totally compliant and professional, - Famous Tobacco at 3045 Main St.; Shell at 2749 Main St.; Mobil at 592 Hebron Ave.; Shell at 556 Hebron Ave.; Addison Fine Wine & Spirits at 2 Hebron Ave ; Chestnut Mart at 2088 Hebron Ave.; Corks at 1320 Manchester Road; One Stop at 339 New London Turnpike; Sam's at 952 New London Turnpike; O'Reilly's at 900 New London Turnpike; Paddy's at 2249 New London Turnpike; and Irving at 890 Main St.
Fines for selling tobacco products to minors are $300 for a first offense; $750 for a second and $1,000 for a third.
Fines for vape sales to minors are $1,000, police said.
