GLASTONBURY, CT — Overnight demolition work on a bridge in Glastonbury is expected to continue through Nov. 4, extending the work by a week beyond its original completion date, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The demolition at Bridge No. 389 is part of the state's Route 17 and New London Turnpike Improvements Project, State Project No. 0053-0189. The work was initially scheduled to conclude Oct. 28.

The demolition involves jackhammering between approximately 6 p.m. and 4 a.m., creating construction noise during overnight hours.

CTDOT has installed temporary sound barrier panels near adjacent condominiums to help reduce the noise, although the barriers will not eliminate it entirely.

The town said the state is responsible for the project and associated construction work. Glastonbury officials will share additional updates from CTDOT as they become available.
