GLASTONBURY, CT — The Glastonbury Police Department has received reports of calls circulating in town from scammers claiming to be Police Chief Marshall Porter, law enforcement officials said Thursday.
The caller will say there is an urgent matter and asks people to call a number provided, police said.
The calls have appeared on caller ID as 860-633-8301, the department's actual phone number.
"Scammers can fake the number that appears on your screen. This is called caller ID spoofing," police said.
Police provided explicit instructions for residents:
"If you already shared information or sent money, please report it to Glastonbury Police at 860-633-8301," police said.
