Criminal justice reform is a hot-button issue. What is the Jewish view on this important topic? This February, the Chabad Jewish Center will address this timely subject. And you are invited!
“Crime and Consequence” is a new six-part series by the acclaimed Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). It will explore 3,000 years of Jewish wisdom on a wide range of issues, including: the prison system, criminal background checks, and even the death penalty.
“If you care deeply about justice and are enraged by injustice, this series is for you,” says Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky, course instructor. “We will present real life cases, address the pros and cons of our current system, and present a fresh perspective.”

“Crime and Consequence” will address some big questions, including: Do all criminals deserve a second chance? Should criminal records ever be erased (or sealed)? What does Judaism say about the death penalty? What can we do about the high recidivism rate?
“It is a profound irony that the United States is a true beacon of democracy… while it imprisons more of its own citizenry than any other country,” wrote Professor Alan Dershowitz, Professor Emeritus at Harvard Law School, in his endorsement of the course. “Crime and Consequence brings rigorous legal analysis, statistical data on incarceration and rehabilitation, and case studies into a uniquely profound dialogue.”
