Area Firefighters Set to Return Home After Battling California Wildfire

Firefighters from Berlin, Farmington and Glastonbury are part of a Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection crew sent to California.

Three area residents are among the Connecticut fire crew members who are scheduled to return Thursday night following a 17-day deployment to help battle the Eiler Fire near Burney, CA.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the firefighters were part of a 20-member crew comprised of DEEP employees and private sector firefighters sent to California on Aug. 4 to help battle the 32,000-acre wildfire that began on July 31.

The entire crew is scheduled to return to about 8:15 p.m. at Eastern District Headquarters, 209 Hebron Rd., Marlborough. Connecticut’s crew members received excellent reviews from the U.S. Forest Service for their work.
