Bay State Man Charged With Stealing Checks from Glastonbury Business

He is charged with attempting to cash a fraudulent check for a large sum of money, police said.

GLASTONBURY, CT — A Massachusetts man was charged by two different area police departments Wednesday with forgery and larceny.

Matthew Beauregard, 31, of Shrewsbury, was charged by Enfield police with second-degree forgery and third-degree larceny, stemming from the theft of checks from a Glastonbury business.

Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said Beauregard attempted to cash a check made out to him in the amount of $2,474 at the United Bank branch inside the Big Y supermarket. A suspicious teller questioned the authenticity of the check, and a call to the Glastonbury company revealed the business had not issued a check to Beauregard.

Beauregard posted a $10,000 surety bond in the Enfield case.

Judicial records show Beauregard was also charged Wednesday by Manchester police with third-degree forgery and third-degree larceny, based on an offense from Nov. 2, 2016. He posted $20,000 surety bond, and no further information was immediately available about that case.
