Bus Driver Charged for Leaving 6-Year-Old on School Bus

The man worked for a Glastonbury-based bus company that was transporting Wethersfield students when the incident took place.

GLASTONBURY, CT – A 41-year-old bus driver has been charged for an incident in June in which a child was left on a school bus, police said.

Guillermo Garcia of East Hartford was taken into custody late Tuesday morning and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a child, according to a police report. His bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Aug. 30, according to a police report.

At the time, Garcia was employed as a bus driver for Access Transportation, based at 97 Nutmeg Lane in Glastonbury, police said. The company has a transportation contract for schools in Wethersfield, police said.

On June 29, Garcia was transporting children home from a school in Wethersfield and left a 6-year-old boy on his bus as he parked it at the Glastonbury depot, according to a police report. He exited the bus not realizing the child was still on board, according to a police report.

The child was found by a bus company staff member about a half-hour later, according to a police report.

Police said they do not believe the child suffered any "health effects" because of the incident.
