On Campus - Glastonbury College Students

GLASTONBURY, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Lasell College, Newton MA

• Corinne Ciraldo, a Fashion and Retail Merchandising major at Lasell College, was named to the fall 2018 Dean's List. Ciraldo, a South Glastonbury native, is a member of the Lasell College class of 2019. To be named to the Dean's List, they needed to complete at least 12 credits as a full-time student and achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY

• Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Mark Shapiro of Glastonbury and University High School Of Science and Engineering has garnered a weekly award from the Liberty League. Shapiro, a junior, was named the Field Performer of the Week after winning the 42-competitor weight throw with a maximum effort of 16.78 meters, which came on his fifth attempt. The runner-up reached 16.66 meters. Shapiro also competed in the shot put, but fouled out. Rensselaer won the 15-school event with 120.7 points, which was 20 in front of second place Utica. The meet was RPI's first competition since December 8 when the Engineers also competed at Utica. On that day, Shapiro, a mathematics major, set his personal collegiate best in the weight with a throw of 17.42 meters. It marked the first time he surpassed 17 meters. During his sophomore campaign, Shapiro won the shot put and was second in the weight throw at the Liberty League Championship to earn Field Athlete of the Meet. He went on to earn the same award at the outdoor championship after capturing the shot put and discus.

University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL

• Ashley Claire-Marie Pineault of Glastonbury was named to The University of Alabama President's List for fall 2018. A total of 12,332 students enrolled during the 2018 fall term at UA were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's).
