GLASTONBURY, CT — Glastonbury officials have released the following statement in reaction to the first local death related to the coronavirus:

"It is with a heavy heart that the Glastonbury Health Department reports Glastonbury has suffered its first death as a result of the novel COVID-19 virus. The resident was a female over the age of 80. The Town of Glastonbury expresses its deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

"The unfortunate deaths related to this virus are a mournful reality faced by communities worldwide and now, more than ever, it’s essential that Glastonbury residents observe the social distancing and preventative measures outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These simple actions can help prevent the further transmission of the COVID-19 disease, especially to the elderly and other residents at increased risk in the community.

"Glastonbury residents are strongly advised to stay home, stay safe, and follow these CDC guidelines until further notice:

  • Practice social distancing by staying 6 feet or farther away from others at all times
  • Avoid face to face interactions to help reduce transmission of the disease
  • Stay home unless it’s absolutely necessary to leave the house.
  • Wash hands often and thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after coming into contact with shared surfaces or objects.
  • If you are feeling sick, contact a medical professional immediately for further instruction and avoid contact with others."
