COVID-19 Data Dashboard Launched by CT Data Collaborative

The Connecticut Data Collaborative (CTData), a public-private partnership that advocates for the public availability of open and accessible data, has launched a COVID-19 Case Tracking Dashboard that tracks key data and trends in Connecticut, including COVID-19 tests completed, confirmed cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the state.

The Data Dashboard also tracks trends in the number of confirmed cases in each of Connecticut’s 169 communities. The website enables people to see not only the latest relevant data but is accompanied by data visualizations, in charts and graphs, of the trends since the COVID-19 pandemic first reached Connecticut.

The data used in developing the COVID-19 Case Tracking Data Dashboard is updated daily, and utilizes the latest information from the state Department of Public Health.

The site, at www.ctdata.org/covid19, is designed to provide an additional resource in understanding changing circumstances throughout Connecticut during the pandemic, and in the weeks ahead.

“At CTData, our mission is to create accessible and useful data products to help communities make data-informed decisions and to increase public understanding through data,” said Executive Director Michelle Riordan-Nold. “The elements included in the COVID-19 dashboard provide ways to go beyond the latest totals to understand how numbers have changed over time, as the impact has spread across Connecticut.”

CTData is currently developing additional data sets that will be added to the COVID-19 Dashboard in the coming days, including economic development and demographic data. “Access to reliable and trustworthy resources is essential to increasing data literacy and informing decision-making, especially during a global health crisis,” added Elizabeth Grim, CTData’s Director of Community Impact.

Empowering an ecosystem of data users by democratizing access to public data and building data literacy skills, as central to CTData’s work. More than 200 data sets are now accessible to the public on the CTData website, including a wide array of subjects and policy categories.

In addition, CTData is the lead organization for the State of Connecticut in the U.S. Census Bureau’s State Data Center Program and Connecticut’s official source for 2020 Census data.

CTData assists nonprofits, advocates, policymakers, community groups, and funders in using data to drive policy and improve programs and services, budgeting and decision making at the state, regional and local levels. CTData creates interactive data portals, platforms, and stories for users to explore; teaching data skills through workshops; consulting with organizations on their specific data needs; and supporting a community of data users through events and conferences.
