Democrats Endorse Ellen Paul For Spot In 55th District House Race
Paul accepted the unanimous Democratic endorsement in Hebron as she seeks to replace Rep. Steve Weir in the 55th District.

HEBRON, CT — Ellen Paul accepted the unanimous endorsement of the Democratic Party in Hebron on Tuesday evening as she launched her campaign in the 55th District state House of Representatives race.
Paul is running against Rep. Steve Weir foir the General Assembly seat representing Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, Hebron and Marlborough.
In accepting the endorsement, Paul focused her remarks on affordability and on Weir’s voting record. “I hear it from seniors, families, and workers: Steve Weir has failed to deliver on lower costs and lower taxes,” said Paul.

She continued with a broader criticism of state and national Republicans and tied that argument to the race for the district seat.
She said, “As the Republican circus in D.C. drives up costs, Steve Weir has sided with insurers over special needs kids and debt collectors over critically ill patients, voted against a rate-reducing clean energy bill that cost taxpayers nothing, and voted to let 60-year-old men marry 16-year-old girls. He is too extreme not just for Connecticut, but even for his own party. You deserve a commonsense leader with a plan to lower costs, not culture war chaos.”

According to the campaign announcement, Paul was born and raised in eastern Connecticut and previously served as an aide to Congressman Joe Courtney. The announcement says she is now executive director of the Connecticut Library Consortium.
The campaign described that role as work defending “American values against censorship and attack.”
The announcement also says Paul and her husband, Steve, are raising two daughters who attend public school.
Paul’s campaign said she is running to help secure a future “where they, and all our kids, can grow up free and safe.” No additional campaign events, primary dates or other next steps were included in the announcement.
The endorsement gives Paul formal backing from local Democrats as the contest begins to take shape in the 55th District. The seat covers a mix of communities in eastern and central Connecticut, including Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, Hebron and Marlborough.
