Glastonbury Council To Discuss License Plate Readers At Special Meeting

Residents can question the technology at a Nov. 12 meeting, with advance questions requested by Nov. 9.

Glastonbury residents can ask questions about automated license plate readers during a special Town Council meeting Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers on the second floor of Town Hall, 2155 Main St., with a Zoom participation option, according to matching notices on the Town of Glastonbury and GCAP Prevention Council websites.

Police Chief Marshall Porter will present information about the technology, which captures and identifies vehicle license plates. The town's announcement specifies that the discussion does not concern speed cameras or automated speed enforcement. The amended meeting agenda includes public comment, questions from councilors and further commentary from the Police Department.

Residents with specific questions they want addressed during the meeting are encouraged to submit them through the Town Council's online public comment form by Monday, Nov. 9, at 8 a.m. Members of the public also will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions during the meeting.

The form separately lists a general public comment deadline of 2 p.m. the day before a meeting, which falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11. It requires a first and last name, street address, meeting date and time, and comments. Comments are limited to what can reasonably be read in three minutes or less, with a maximum of 1,500 characters, including spaces.
