Glastonbury Girls Looking for Three-Peat in Soccer Finals

A shutout of Wilton in the Class LL semifinals Wednesday gives the Tomahawks a shot at three straight state championships.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Glastonbury jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in its Class LL semifinal girls soccer match Wednesday, then frustrated Wilton with long periods of ball control to secure a 2-0 victory and a third straight berth in the state championship matchup.

For the second straight year, the top-seeded and unbeaten Tomahawks will square off against No. 3 Ridgefield in the title tilt Saturday at 11 a.m. at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. Glastonbury successfully defended its title in last season's matchup by a 5-3 count.

Caroline Bogue and Madison Seymour netted goals in the opening five minutes, then the stifling Glastonbury defense took over, holding Wilton without a shot on goal the entire contest.

Two other girls teams from north-central Connecticut were not as fortunate Wednesday on the soccer pitch. Previously-undefeated Suffield fell to Ridgefield in Class LL, 3-0, while in Class L, Farmington dropped a 2-0 decision to Masuk.

Volleyball teams from the area fared quite well in the semifinals, with victories by top-seeded Farmington and No. 2 RHAM setting up an all-Central Connecticut Conference final in Class LL.
