Glastonbury Graduate Selected in Major League Baseball Draft

GLASTONBURY, CT — After three days, 40 rounds and 1,215 names announced, the Major League Baseball draft ended Wednesday with 15 players with Connecticut ties selected by major league organizations.

Among the draftees was Glastonbury High School graduate John Russell, selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 16th round with the 486th overall pick. The righthanded pitcher was one of four players drafted out of the University of Connecticut, along with RHP Wills Montgomerie, SS Willy Yahn and LHP Doug Domnarski.

At Glastonbury, Russell was an All-State and All-CCC selection.
