Glastonbury Library Presenting Its Swimsuit Edition — In Historical Context

GLASTONBURY, CT — The Welles-Turner Memorial Library is scheduled to host a program exploring the history of women's swimwear on Aug. 12.

"From Bathing Gowns to Bikinis: A History of Women's Swimwear" will be presented by Carly Quinn from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, 2407 Main St.

The program will examine the evolution of women's swimwear over several centuries, including the origins of weighted wool bathing dresses, the history behind the term "bikini," and the social attitudes that shaped changing fashions.

According to the event description, the presentation will explore themes of fashion, public controversy and women's liberation.

The program is intended for adults. Registration is required through the Welles-Turner Memorial Library.
