Glastonbury Man Caught With Heroin Stash on I-91: Report

A man was found with a heroin stash during a highway traffic stop, state police said.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A Glastonbury man was not singing a happy tune after state police dog Yodel searched his car on Wednesday after a traffic stop and found a drug stash, according to a report.

On Wednesday at approximately 12:20 p.m., troopers assigned to the Connecticut State Police Traffic Service Unit were patrolling Interstate-91 in the Rocky Hill area when they observed a car being operated with the improper license plate, according to a report.

After stopping the car and speaking with the operator, troopers learned that the operator had a suspended license and there was no insurance on the car, according to a report.

Troopers also determined that narcotics were possibly contained in the vehicle, and the driver, Erik Loura, 30, of Glastonbury, gave troopers consent to search his vehicle.

With the assistance of police dog Yodel, troopers seized 17 bags of suspected heroin, one strip of suspected Suboxone and five suspected Alprazolam tablets, according to a report.

Loura was taken into custody and transported to Troop H in Hartford where he was charged with the improper use of a marker plate, operating under suspension, an insurance violation, illegal possession of prescription drugs and illegal possession of narcotics, according to a report.

Loura was released after posting $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on Feb. 7, state police said.
