Glastonbury Obituary: Dorothy Vandale, 87

Condolences to her family and friends.

Dorothy A. Vandale, 87, of Glastonbury, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Salmon Brook Center in Glastonbury.

Dorothy was born on November 25, 1929, in Hartford, daughter of the late Michael and Marie-Antoinette (Breton) Vandale. She grew up in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford, attended St. Anne's Grammar School and then Putnam Catholic Academy. She took vows and joined the Daughters of The Holy Spirit, during which time she worked as a school teacher for 30 years. She later left the convent to take care of her aging parents and became a medical secretary for Hartford Hospital.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, had an intense love for the Christmas season, and especially Baby Jesus. Always a teacher at heart, she enjoyed instructing scripture classes to the residents at Salmon Brook Center and Herbert T. Clark House. She was a kind, caring, unconditionally-loving and devoted woman of God who will be greatly missed. She never had children, but loved all her nieces and nephews as her own.
