Glastonbury Obituary: Edward Mellott, 92

Condolences to his family and friends.

Edward C. Mellott, 92, of Glastonbury, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. He was the cherished husband and best friend of the late Barbara (Trinks) Mellott for nearly 62 years.

Ed was born in Ambridge, PA on July 13, 1924, son of the late Emory Leslie and Mae Bertha Mellott, and resided in East Hartford for several years prior to moving to Glastonbury in 1976. Ed proudly spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, including combat tours during World War II, and service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Ed retired as a Chief Petty Officer.

Following the service, he worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford until he retired in 1986. Ed was a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, East Hartford and sang in the choir for many years, and a Masonic member of Lodge # 701 AF & AM in Ambridge, PA. Ed was an avid sports fan, particularly to his beloved Pittsburgh teams - the Steelers and the Pirates.

Ed is survived by his three loving daughters, Beverly Gilbert Johnson of Surprise, AZ, Janice Dzen and her husband Raymond of Bolton, Leslie Mellott Hunter and her husband Loren of Phippsburg, ME; eight grandchildren, Susan Babella and her husband Chuck, Jeffrey Gilbert and his wife Allie, Todd Dzen and his fiancée Melissa Lotstein, Lee Fischetti, Ian Mellott and his wife Kristen, Ian Hunter and his wife Lisa, Vanessa Walmsley and her husband William, and Emma Hunter; four adored great-grandchildren, Cameron and Griffin Gilbert, Edward "Woody" Mellott, and Aria Walmsley. He also leaves many in-laws from the Trinks family, nieces, nephews, former co-workers, and dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, Ed was predeceased by two brothers, Ross Mellott and John Mellott both of Aliquippa, PA and two sisters, Dorothy Hoffmaster of Aliquippa, PA and Margaret Sipler of Arizona.

Memorial service will be Saturday (September 24, 2016) at 10 a.m. at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 110 Ellington Road, East Hartford, with the Rev. Jackie Trotter Dove officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. There are no calling hours.
