Glastonbury Obituary: Elsa McCaffrey, 99

Elsa (Ost) McCaffrey, 99, of Glastonbury, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 following a long illness.

She was born on February 20, 1917 in Grangesberg, Sweden to the late Ester (Wallin) and Gustav Ost. She grew up in Fair Haven Vermont, became a naturalized U.S. citizen and moved to Hartford in 1943.

Elsa worked for The Hartford for 37 years, beginning in the steno pool and retiring as secretary to the manager of the Hartford regional office. Elsa loved dancing, shopping, travelling and, most of all, the company of her cherished friends and family. She showed us how to enjoy life, with her kind and generous spirit, sparkling personality and joy in laughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Linnea McCaffrey and son-in-law, Mark Pellegrini, of Manchester, granddaughters Adrienne Pellegrini of Washington DC and Natalie Pellegrini of Los Angeles, California. She was predeceased by her brother William Ost of Hartford.

For their compassionate care and support over the past several years, Elsa’s family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Glastonbury Health Care Center, Visiting Nurses & Health Services of Vernon palliative and hospice care, Companions & Homemakers and Always Best Care.

Elsa’s family will receive friends and family on Monday, May 30st, from 5 to 7 PM and Tuesday May 31st, from 9:30-10 AM at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street Manchester. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31st, at 10 AM at Tierney Funeral Home with interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
