Glastonbury Obituary: Helen Cantwell, 90

Condolences to her family and friends.

Helen (Lysik) Cantwell, 90, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Donald L. Cantwell, Sr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018.

Born in Glastonbury, the daughter of the late Jacenty and Stella (Starsiak) Lysik, she grew up and lived in Glastonbury before moving to South Windsor sixty years ago. She was a graduate of Glastonbury High School, Class of 1945. Helen worked for the Travelers Insurance Company and the former Balch Pontiac Buick in East Windsor where she was the payroll administrator for many years.

Helen was the secretary at St. Margaret Mary Church for several years. She was a volunteer at FISH, helping coordinate rides for seniors. Helen loved animals, her pets, reading, and making arts and crafts. She was an avid UConn women’s basketball fan. Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was blessed with four children who survive her, Beverly Cantwell of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia Sukrachand of Norfolk, MA, Donald Cantwell, Jr., and his wife Deborah of York Beach, ME, and Steven Cantwell and his husband Jon Froncak of East Haddam; six grandchildren, Marissa and Andrew Cantwell, Taiesha McBroom, Maya Clarke, and Daniel and Robert Sukrachand; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six siblings, Louise Midura, Joseph, Frederick, Chester, Edward, and Richard Lysik.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery, East Windsor.
