Glastonbury Obituary: Henry Kroeger III, 66

Condolences to his family and friends.

Henry John Kroeger III of Glastonbury, better known as “Jack”, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, surrounded by loved ones.

Jack was born on December 25, 1949 in Jersey City, NJ to his parents Henry J. Kroeger Jr and Ryta O’Brien Kroeger by whom he was predeceased. He shared his Christmas birthday with his esteemed father. Jack attended Windham College in Putney, VT, graduating in 1971. He then went on to Vermont Law School in South Royalton, VT, graduating in 1977. He was admitted to the American Bar Association in 1978. In 1981, Jack opened his own practice in East Hartford specializing in Bankruptcy and Personal Injury and was well respected by colleagues and clients during his 35+ years serving the community.

Jack was a member of The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, The Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and Pro-Bono Law Works For People Program. He received numerous awards throughout his career. He was a lifelong learner, continuing to study at UConn and in 2016 earned his Masters of Insurance Law.

Jack was a selfless man with his time and had an infectious personality. His love for reading, the law, the Beatles and Bob Dylan rivaled his love of his family. He loved to travel and considered the Bahamas his second home for many years. Jack was known by many and loved by all.

Surviving are his beloved fiancé, Anne Marie Hammell of Glastonbury; beloved daughter, Danielle Sewell and husband Chad of Coventry; stepchildren, Ryan, Erin and Briana Nolan; grandson and best friend Jack Fumara, grandchildren, Julia, Jayce and Jathan Sewell and Julia Nolan. Jack is also survived by his sister Claudia Mahon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, niece Erin and her husband Matthew and their children Ava and Liliana, and nephew Sean; brother Brien Kroeger and wife Marjorie of Brooklyn; niece Brianne and nephew Kevin; and brother Roger Kroeger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL along with many cousins, extended family, and numerous friends.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 26 from 1 to 4 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave. Glastonbury. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association and the Connecticut Association for Non Profit Legal Aid.
