Glastonbury Obituary: Mary Salecky, 95

Condolences to her family and friends.

Mary (Hulaygrotski) Salecky, 95, beloved wife of the late Joseph Salecky, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 8, 1920 in Sukhovolia, Western Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Ksenia Hulaygrotski. In 1948 she bravely emigrated to the United States. Mary was a devoted, loving wife and a nurturing mother, grandmother and great -grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, singing, gardening and embroidering a lovely array of Ukrainian traditional pillows, blouses and decorative pieces. She passed her Christian values, love of Ukrainian culture and her pride as a citizen in her adopted country, the United States of America, to her family.

Mary was the matriarch who kept her family together. She is survived by her children Helen Perry, Irena Kowal and Zenko Salecky, her daughter-in-law Susan Salecky, her son-in-law Ihor Kowal, her grandchildren Sonia and Adrian Kowal, Joseph and Timothy Salecky, Mark and Andrew Perry, Irina and Tania Salecky, her great granddaughters, Indigo Kowal and Vlada Salecky. Mary was predeceased by her beloved son, Orest Salecky.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel at 277 Folly Brook Boulevard in Wethersfield. There will be a memorial service (Panakhyda) at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford. Mary Salecky will be laid to rest at St. Michael's Ukrainian cemetery on the New London Turnpike in Glastonbury.
