
Peter George Shanley died suddenly at his home on Sunday March 20, 2016.
Mr. Shanley was a resident of Glastonbury for 35 years. He was born in Meriden on January 19, 1945 to the late George and Beatrice (Jorgenson) Shanley.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Ellen Rosa Shanley of almost 33 years and their two beautiful children and their partners, Amanda and her husband Justin Hart and Gregg Shanley and his fiancée Belinda Kotler. He also leaves two sisters Donna & Richard Steinle of Venice, FL and Karen and her husband Alexander Nicholson of Bonita Springs, FL. On his wife's side he leaves Karen and Wayne Thornton of Lubbock, TX and Michael Rosa and Juan Romero of Duluth, MN. Peter thought the world of his nieces and nephews and their children and loved buying them toys, and will be missed by all.

Peter graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then served in the US Army as a 2nd lieutenant during the Vietnam era. His service was honored by receiving the Leavenworth Lamp, the symbol of the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS. He returned to school and completed his MBA at Rensselaer Poytechnic Institute.
He worked for many years at Northeast Utilities and subsequently as the Treasurer of Yankee Gas. Peter retired in December of 2015 from a job he loved at the Office of the Consumer Counsel for the State of CT protecting consumers of rising utility rates.

Peter had many hobbies and loved wood working. He made many pieces of furniture and was recently working on cabinets for his daughter's kitchen. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited France and Iceland this past year.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm at MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME 592 Chapel St. New Haven and are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. Dunstan's Church 1345 Manchester Rd. Glastonbury on Wednesday to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery 1318 Hebron Ave. Glastonbury.
