Glastonbury Schools Being Targeted By Fraudulent Fax Scam: Officials

GLASTONBURY, CT — Glastonbury officials are warning school employees about a fraudulent fax message that appears to come from a legitimate Glastonbury Public Schools email address.

The Town of Glastonbury said Sept. 17 that the message appears to have been sent through a scanning or fax system and prompts recipients to open an attached PDF.

The message has the subject line "Scan from PrimeLink." Officials said similar messages could be sent to other schools or staff members.

Residents and employees are advised not to open unexpected attachments or click links in suspicious messages. They also should not provide personal, financial or login information in response to unsolicited communications.

Anyone who receives a suspicious fax, email or other communication claiming to be from the town, Glastonbury Public Schools or another town-affiliated department should verify the message with the appropriate department using a known phone number or other established contact method before taking action.

The warning follows a separate scam reported earlier this year involving fraudulent invoices sent to Planning and Zoning applicants.
