Main Street Sidewalks Open In Glastonbury As Phase 3C Reaches Substantial Completion

GLASTONBURY, CT — Main Street's new sidewalks are now open to the public after the town announced the Phase 3C sidewalk project has reached substantial completion. In a July 17 update, the town said the sidewalks opened Thursday, July 16, marking a major milestone for the Main Street project.

According to the town, the work is not yet fully complete. The town has given its contractor, B&W Paving & Landscaping, a final punch list of items that must be finished before the project is formally completed.

The remaining work includes painting sidewalk markings at the intersection of Main Street, also identified as Route 17, and Chestnut Hill Road/Red Hill Drive. The contractor also still must clear construction materials and restore the laydown area at Earle Park/American Legion Hall, according to the town.

Other unfinished items include removing small areas of invasive bamboo shoots that have re-emerged and reseeding spots where grass has not become well established. The town said that reseeding is expected during the upcoming fall growing season.

One final approval also remains outside the town's direct project list. Final acceptance of the intersection improvements and roadway repaving by the Connecticut Department of Transportation is still pending, according to the update.
