New Eastbury Elementary School Principal in Glastonbury

Starting today, a new leader at Eastbury Elementary School will mark the beginning of an administrative shuffle that began when former GHS principal Matthew Dunbar was hired as the new assistant superintendent in August.

Janet Balthazar, the former assistant principal at Gideon Welles School, was hired to be the newest principal of Eastbury Elementary School last week.  Balthazar replaces former Eastbury principal Nancy Bean, who was hired to replace Dunbar at Glastonbury High School in early September.

Balthazar will work today and Tuesday alongside Bean to transition into Eastbury. Bean will transfer to GHS on Wednesday, working with Dunbar the rest of the week. Dunbar will begin as assistant superintendent next Tuesday, Superintendent Alan B. Bookman said.

Balthazar began her teaching career in third grade at Hebron Avenue Elementary School, working there for three years before moving to a fifth-grade classroom at Gideon Welles School. She became an assistant principal in Colchester in 2006, before returning to Gideon Welles as assistant principal in 2011.

Bookman said that he had only posted the Eastbury position internally.
