Newspaper Deliveryman Carjacked In Glastonbury, Suspects Caught
Two teens suspected of carjacking a newspaper deliveryman were arrested after leading police on a chase before crashing in Middletown.
MIDDLETOWN, CT — Two teens suspected of carjacking a newspaper deliveryman early Saturday morning in Glastonbury were arrested after leading police on a chase before crashing on I-91 North in Middletown, according to police. At about 4:10 a.m. on Sept. 29, Glastonbury Police received a report from the newspaper deliveryman that he was robbed of his vehicle at an apartment complex at 1 Glastonbury Place by two males with guns.
Glastonbury Police contacted Middletown Police after the vehicle was tracked to the area of Stoneycrest Drive in Middletown. An officer located the vehicle in an apartment complex on Stoneycrest Drive and it drove off with screeching tires, according to Middletown Police.
The officer followed the vehicle north on Newfield Street and the driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified as 18-year-old Antwane Daniels of Middletown, went through a red light at the intersection of Tuttle Road and took off at a high rate of speed, according to Lt. Heather Desmond.

Desmond said the officer activated his lights and siren, attempting to stop the stolen vehicle but Daniels didn’t stop and continued onto Route 9 North and then I-91 North. Daniels sideswiped a pickup truck and then crashed into a Honda Pilot between Exit 23 and 24 on I-91 North, according to Desmond.
Daniels and his 16-year-old passenger fled the vehicle on foot but were located and taken into custody, Desmond said.

Desmond said the 16-year-old required medical attention and was taken to the hospital. He was issued a juvenile summons and released to his guardian.

Daniels, of Stoneycrest Drive, was arrested on charges of first-degree larceny, interfering/resisting, running from police, unsafe backing, reckless driving, improper lane, failure to obey traffic signals and operating without a license. He was held on a $100,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 10.
The juvenile was charged with first-degree larceny, interfering/resisting and attempt to commit a crime. He also has a court date on Oct. 10.
Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash and Glastonbury Police are continuing to investigate the carjacking to determine if additional charges will be filed, according to Desmond.
