Overnight Rehabilitation Work Underway On Hebron Avenue Bridge In Glastonbury

GLASTONBURY, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has begun bridge rehabilitation work on the Route 94 (Hebron Avenue) bridge over Route 17 in Glastonbury.

It is part of a larger bridge improvement project in central Connecticut.

The project includes milling and resurfacing the bridge deck, reconstructing the bridge deck ends, and installing new asphaltic/performed joints to extend the life of the structure, according to the DOT.

The contractor, Hammonasset Construction LLC was scheduled to begin installing construction signs on Monday, July 6 if weather allowed. Reconstruction of the bridge "deck ends" is expected to begin on Wednesday, July 15, with one lane of traffic maintained through the work area, according to the DOT.

Bridge milling is currently anticipated to begin during the week of July 27. The DOT has indicated that traffic plans are still under review, and a proposed revision could eliminate the need for a detour. Additional traffic information will be shared as it becomes available.

Construction activities will generally take place during overnight hours, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., to minimize impacts on daytime traffic. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures, reduced speeds, and periodic traffic delays while work is underway.

Traffic control measures, including advance warning signs, arrow boards, crash trucks, and State Troopers as needed, will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zone. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Residents and commuters traveling through the Hebron Avenue and Route 17 area are encouraged to:

• Allow extra travel time during construction.
• Follow posted traffic control devices and reduced speed limits.
• Exercise caution when traveling through work zones for the safety of construction crews and fellow motorists.

The overall CTDOT project is scheduled to continue through November 2027, with work taking place at multiple bridge locations throughout the region.
