Reward Increased to $25,000 For 2024 Fatal Hit-And-Run Incident On Route 2

COLCHESTER, CT — Paul J. Narducci, State's Attorney for the Judicial District of New London, announced Monday that Gov. Ned Lamont has authorized a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the 2024 motor-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that resulted in the death of Noel F. McGregor, Jr.

The action rescinds a previously authorized $10,000 reward issued by the state in 2024.

The reward request was submitted by State's Attorney Narducci, who noted that despite extensive investigative efforts, the case remains unsolved.

Connecticut State Police continue to work on the case and maintain contact with Mr. McGregor’s family.

Mr. McGregor was "well-known and well-respected in his community," where he had served as a longtime Hartford police officer and detective, city council member and committed church elder, and ran a local business. He was discovered suffering from multiple injuries on Oct. 22, 2024 on Route 2 westbound, just prior to Exit 16 in Colchester.

Connecticut State Police Troopers from Troop K in Colchester were dispatched to the site for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle. It was reported that the vehicle was driving erratically and fled the scene. Mr. McGregor was transported to Hartford Hospital where on Nov. 22, 2024, he succumbed to his injuries.

On Dec. 11, 2024, Governor Lamont approved an initial $10,000 reward following an application by Narducci. Despite the offer, no significant leads developed, officials said. Narducci recently requested an increase in the reward "in the hope that new information will be developed if the reward is increased," officials said.

Lamont’s authorization of a reward of up to $25,000 "reflects the continued effort to encourage anyone with knowledge about the motor vehicle collision that resulted in Mr. McGregor's death to come forward," officials said.

Officials said the reward will be paid by order of the court upon conviction of the individual or individuals responsible.

Narducci said, "The New London Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful to Governor Lamont for increasing this reward and to members of the Connecticut State Police for their work and dedication to this investigation. State’s Attorney Narducci said he hopes the $25,000 reward will bring about new information from people who may know something but have not yet come forward."

He added, "The public can play a critical role in advancing the investigation into Mr. McGregor’s death. No piece of information should ever be dismissed as insignificant, nor should members of the community assume investigators are already aware of it. Even a detail that appears minor can prove essential to resolving a case and securing a just outcome. We urge anyone with information to come forward to help ensure accountability in his memory."
