[Update 10 a.m. Friday] Accident Reduces Newgate to One Lane

Police are still searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck a stone wall and utility pole.

A one-vehicle accident that took place around 7:15 p.m. Thursday evening resulted in Newgate Road near Rte. 20 being reduced to one lane, according to East Granby police.

The road reopened at 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to Resident Administrative Trooper Jeremy Powell.

The vehicle, a 2006 Ford pickup registered to Edmund Wild of Otis, Mass., was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a stone wall and a utility pole, Powell said. The collision brought down power lines and knocked out power to several homes in the area, according to Powell.

In addition to the road reopening, power has been restored in the area, Powell said.

The driver of the vehicle, which rolled over on its side, fled the scene, according to Powell; a search conducted by the state trooper's K-9 unit did not result in the driver being located.
