GRANBY, CT — Granby and East Granby will mark America’s 250th anniversary with a two-day celebration featuring live music, a bonfire, a Fourth of July parade and family activities at Salmon Brook Park.
The celebration begins Friday, July 3, with The Decker Bandits performing from 6 to 8 p.m. at the bandshell at Salmon Brook Park. The band’s music blends storytelling, bluegrass, rock, jam and jazz.
Food will be available from the American Legion Shannon Shattuck Post #182, with burgers, hot dogs and chips for sale. Moolicious Ice Cream is also expected to be on site.
After the concert, attendees can walk across the field for a bonfire featuring fife and drum from 8 to 9 p.m. at Salmon Brook Park.
The celebration continues Saturday, July 4, with the Granby/East Granby America 250 Parade from 9 to 10 a.m. The parade route runs along Salmon Brook Street, Routes 10/202, from Granby Memorial Middle School to Salmon Brook Park.
The parade is expected to include the Granby Horse Council, East Granby’s stagecoach and Clydesdales, classic cars, floats, music, local dignitaries and other participants.
A picnic and activities in the park will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Salmon Brook Park. The event will include speeches, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, children’s games, crafts and a bring-your-own picnic.
Burgers and hot dogs will also be available from the American Legion grill.
The events are sponsored by The Friends of the Granby Public Library, American Legion Shannon Shattuck Post #182, Granby Grange, Stop & Shop and Granby’s America 250 Committee.
