East Granby To Remember Former First Selectman

He served 12 years as East Granby’s first selectman and later chaired the town’s Board of Finance.

EAST GRANBY, CT — A memorial celebration of life for former East Granby First Selectman David K. Kilbon is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the David K. Kilbon Recreation Center at East Granby Farms.

The event notice invites residents to “join us in celebrating a life full of curiosity about the world around him and his dedication to his long-time home of East Granby.”

The David K. Kilbon Recreation Center is located at East Granby Farms, 79 North Main St., according to the East Granby Recreation Department. The town Parks and Recreation Department describes the building, also known as “The Barn,” as a 2,400-square-foot recreation and community space used for programs, private events and meetings.

Kilbon died Feb. 26 at The Residence at Shelburne Bay after a long battle with atypical Parkinsonism, according to his obituary. He was born Oct. 31, 1946.

Kilbon served as East Granby’s first selectman for 12 years after taking office in 1996. He later served another six years as chairman of the town’s Board of Finance and was named East Granby Citizen of the Year in 2008, according to his obituary.

His work in town included helping negotiate the purchase of what became East Granby Farms Park, overseeing construction of the East Granby Highway Garage and East Granby Public Library, and serving on several local and regional boards, including the Capital Region Council of Governments, Farmington Valley Health District and Bradley International Airport Commission, according to his obituary.

The celebration of life notice was signed by Michael Kilbon.
