East Granby Posts 2 Public Works Jobs

The town is seeking workers to help maintain municipal vehicles, roads and facilities.

EAST GRANBY, CT — The Town of East Granby is seeking applicants for two full-time Department of Public Works positions: Assistant Mechanic and Highway Driver/Mechanic.

Both benefit-eligible, 40-hour-per-week jobs are represented by AFSCME, AFL-CIO Local 1303-253, according to job postings issued by the town this week.

The Assistant Mechanic position carries a base hourly rate of $35.64. The job involves maintaining and repairing the town's fleet of heavy and light equipment, vehicles, machinery and small motors, including both diesel- and gasoline-powered equipment.

Applicants must have a high school or trade-school diploma, at least three years of skilled mechanic experience involving automotive, heavy truck or construction equipment, and a valid commercial driver's license with an air-brake endorsement. ASE Master Automotive certification is preferred.

The town is also hiring a Highway Driver/Mechanic at a base rate of $39.85 an hour. In addition to maintaining town equipment, that employee would work on the construction, repair and upkeep of roads, bridges, grounds, buildings and facilities.

That position requires a trade or vocational-school diploma, three years of qualifying mechanic experience, construction or road-maintenance experience, knowledge of fleet, hydraulic and electrical systems, and a valid CDL.
