EAST GRANBY, CT — East Granby posted Connecticut's largest percentage population increase last year, according to new U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Granby was close behind.
East Granby's estimated population climbed from 5,259 on July 1, 2024, to 5,432 on July 1, 2025. That is a gain of 173 residents, or 3.3 percent — the highest rate among the state's 169 towns.
Waterford ranked second at 2.5 percent. Granby placed third after its estimated population grew from 11,714 to 11,963, an increase of 249 people, or 2.1 percent.
The figures come from the Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 population estimates. Patch compared each Connecticut town's July 2024 and July 2025 figures.
Most of East Granby's estimated growth since 2020 came during the latest year. Its population changed little from 2020 through 2024, moving from 5,208 to 5,259 before jumping by 173 in 2025.
Granby's increase has been more gradual. The town's 2020 estimates base was 10,892 residents. By 2025, the estimate had reached 11,963 — an increase of 1,071 people, or 9.8 percent.
The Census Bureau figures are estimates, not a new head count. The bureau revises the full series with each annual release as new information becomes available, meaning earlier estimates can change in future reports.
