GRANBY, CT — Granby is urging residents struggling with heating bills to apply for state assistance, with local help also available for people who do not qualify for the program.

"If you or someone you know is struggling to keep up with energy bills, now is the time to connect with help," the town said in an Oct. 28 announcement about heating assistance.

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, known as CEAP, helps eligible households pay home heating costs. The state lists benefits of $355 to $705 for the 2026-27 season, depending on household size, income and heating source. Payments usually go directly to a utility company or fuel vendor.

Households must apply each year. Applications are being accepted through May 31, 2027, according to the state Department of Social Services.

The state's income guidelines include annual household income limits of $48,714 for one person, $63,703 for two people, $78,692 for three people and $93,681 for four people.

Households receiving certain public benefits, including SNAP, Temporary Family Assistance or Supplemental Security Income, may also meet the program's eligibility criteria.

How To Apply

Residents can start an application online or apply by phone, email, mail or in person through their local Community Action Agency. The state provides application instructions, required documents and agency contacts.

Applicants should gather their latest electric bill, heating bill or fuel vendor information, along with income documentation when required. Mailed, emailed and in-person applications must be signed.

Granby residents who do not qualify for CEAP but still need assistance should contact Granby Social Services at 860-844-5350, the town said.
