Bark & Brew Fundraiser to Benefit Dog Rescue Organization

Dog Star Rescue will host the second annual Bark & Brew fundraising event on Oct. 10 at The Hooker Brewery.

Bark & Brew is the Central CT-based dog rescue organization’s annual fundraising event, with every dime going towards rescuing dogs and finding them forever homes. Tickets include award-winning Dog Star Rescue barbeque, unlimited Hooker beer, raffle and silent auction and a puppy kissing booth where at least five adoptable puppies will be ready to offer up slobbery kisses full of puppy love to attendees.

“For a small $30 donation, enjoy a bottomless glass of 13 types of Hooker Beer, free Dog Star Rescue pint glass, along with award-winning barbeque and great music. See you there!” Dan McCabe, Dog Star Rescue founder, said encouraging all to attend.

Founded in March 2013, Dog Star Rescue is a licensed nonprofit organization that rescues strays and abandoned dogs from high-kill shelters and takes in owner-surrenders. To date, 400 dogs have been rescued and adopted out through Dog Star Rescue adoption events in the Farmington Valley, West Hartford and surrounding towns and online applications.

In addition to dog rescue, volunteers build dog beds for shelters, participate in community talks with local scout troops, attend charity events and assist area animal control officers.

“Dog Star Rescue was born from a great group of experienced rescue volunteers with a community-based vision to guide unwanted, homeless dogs to a new happy life in a wonderful home,” McCabe said. Once the dogs are spayed/neutered and properly vetted with all shots, their profiles are posted on adoption websites and volunteers screen applications, looking for the perfect environment to raise the happy pups.

A growing organization, Dog Star Rescue is led by a five-member board of directors and currently has 150 dog-loving volunteers who work together to make each rescue happen. Three of its volunteers are dog trainers who work with the dogs before and after they are adopted, as needed.

All adoptions fees and donations, including proceeds from Bark & Brew, go towards helping to save dogs. Expenses range from veterinary costs like vaccines and surgeries, transportation and supplies. Last year’s event brought in $6,000 for the organization.

Bark & Brew will be held on October 10 from 6-9 p.m. at The Hooker Brewery, 16 Tobey Road, Bloomfield. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Additionally, attendees can pay $10 for a designated driver after the event.
