Bourque Sentencing Postponed to February

Former Granby police captain plead guilty in July to one count of possession of child pornography and faces between five and 20 years' imprisonment.

The sentencing for David Bourque, the former Granby police captain and longtime Suffield police officer, has been postponed to February 2012, according to court documents.

Bourque, who plead guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, was scheduled to be sentenced in federal court in Hartford today.

But, according to a court order entered on Nov. 22, the sentencing will take place before Chief United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson on Feb. 10 at 9:30 a.m.

It’s the second time that sentencing has been delayed. Bourque was initially scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 11.

Bourque was after investigators found thousands of sexually explicit images of children on a computer hard drive that he owned.

As previously reported by Patch’s Julie Weisberg, subsequent searches of Bourque’s computers, external hard drives and a media card revealed primarily depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent boys, including toddlers and infants.

Bourque was employed by the Granby police department from 2010 until his resignation in June; prior to his arrest, he was widely considered to be the heir apparent to former Chief of Police David Watkins, who retired in September.

With his guilty plea, Bourque faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.
