Buy the Perfect Gift at Expressions Pottery Workshop in East Granby

Today is the last Sunday before Christmas that the studio will be open; the studio will also be open Christmas Eve for several hours.

Time is running out for people looking for that special gift from Expressions Pottery Workshop in East Granby.

The cooperative pottery studio located at 9 School St. has been running holiday hours (open on Sundays in addition to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) since November.

Today is the last Sunday that the studio will be open before Christmas; the studio will be open one more day, Christmas Eve, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Functional, decorative and whimsical works - such as stoneware dishes, jewelry, vases, mugs, lamps, and other display pieces - from 18 of the studio’s members are on sale, ranging in price from $10 to $225, according to Rachel Sharon, the studio’s marketing chairperson.

Popular local artists including Avis Akers Cherichetti, Debbye Rosen, Andrea Gaedeke, Anna McManus, Claudia Karmii and Jennifer Boyd, not to mention Sharon and Marlor, have pieces on sale at the studio.

In addition to the works, gift certificates and pre-registereed pottery classes are also available.

“We’ve been doing very well,” Sharon said.

Studio member Tracy Marlor said that increased signage in the area has also boosted sales.

You also don’t have to know the difference between raku and saggar creations to know that the pieces on sale are beautiful.

Windsor resident Teresa Boya, who was mulling exactly what piece to purchae, said that the studio was an ideal place to pick up a unique holiday gift.

“I took pottery lessons here, so I know the hard work it takes to make such beautiful pieces,” Boya said.
