GRANBY-EAST GRANBY, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from the Granbys, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Belmont University, Nashville TN

  • Clayton Stupienski of Granby qualified for the spring 2017 Dean's List at Belmont University. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C. Approximately 30 percent of Belmont's 7,700 students qualified for the spring 2017 Dean's List.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern Connecticut State University's annual graduation ceremony was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 16, with more than 12,000 family members and friends cheering on their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as 1,180 undergraduates and 58 graduate students received their diplomas. Granby graduates were Jonathan Blejewski, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems; Paul Bourbeau, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology; and James Conroy, Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Keene State College, Keene NH

  • Ethan Sweetland of Granby was recently named to the spring 2017 dean's list at Keene State College. Sweetland was among 1,245 students who were honored for academic excellence in the spring 2017 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, Keene State undergraduates must be enrolled in a degree program and must have completed a minimum of 12 graded credits in the semester. Students must achieve a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale to earn dean's list honors.

University of New Hampshire, Durham NH

  • Paige Lee of Granby graduated from the University of New Hampshire during the Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 20, 2017, on the Durham, NH campus. She earned a BS degree in Occupational Therapy.

University of Scranton, Scranton PA

  • Emma Percival of Granby was among The University of Scranton students inducted into the international honor society for education (Kappa Delta Pi). This honor society is dedicated to the ideals of humanity, science, service and toil. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 1992.
    Percival is a senior majoring in early and primary teacher education at the Jesuit university.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • The Western New England University Army ROTC cadets recently hosted the annual Minuteman Battalion Awards Ceremony in the Lyman and Leslie Wood Auditorium on the University campus. Cadet Henry Wix, a junior majoring in Mathematical Sciences from Granby, was awarded the Department of the Army Superior Cadet Award. This award is presented to outstanding cadets in the top 10% of their military leadership class. Cadet Wix also received the Reserve Officers' Association award for outstanding qualities of leadership, moral character, and a high aptitude for military service.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Four local residents were among 1,319 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2017 semester. Samantha Eaton of East Granby is a member of the class of 2018 majoring in civil engineering. Jessica Grabinsky of East Granby is a member of the class of 2018 majoring in mechanical engineering. Tyler Beaupre of Granby is a member of the class of 2018 majoring in interactive media and game development, and computer science. Connor Hoeckele of Granby is a member of the class of 2018 majoring in mechanical engineering. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
