Some recent notable accomplishments by college students who reside in the Granbys.

GRANBY-EAST GRANBY, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • The WPI men's soccer team was represented by three of the squad's four captains, including Connor Hoeckele of Granby, at the NEISL All-Star Game, which was played Nov. 26 at Brandeis. Hoeckele posted a record of 10-5-2 while collecting six clean sheets and a pair of shared shutouts en route to a 0.75 GAA. He made four stops in a 4-0 win at Wheaton before a six-save 110-minute regular season meeting with Springfield. The four-year starter picked up his 20th career shutout with a seven-save effort in the NEWMAC title game before making two huge stops in the shootout. He was rewarded with tournament MOP honors for his efforts.
  • Samantha Eaton of East Granby, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in civil engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in Panama City, Panama. The project was titled Analyzing Projects of the Panama Canal Expansion Program.
