Crash Closes Major Road in Granby

Three occupants of a vehicle were transported to area hospitals.

GRANBY, CT — Police are investigating a single vehicle crash on Salmon Brook Street at Lakeside Drive which began as a pursuit in neighboring Southwick, Mass. on Monday night, closing Route 10 for several hours.

Initial scene review indicates that a 1999 Honda was southbound on Route 10 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the center line, left the east side of the roadway and struck several trees, Capt. William Tyler said.

A Southwick officer in a marked cruiser had earlier attempted to stop the vehicle as a possible DUI/erratic operation on Route 10 in that town, but reported he lost sight of the vehicle shortly after crossing the state line and came upon the crash near Lakeside Drive, Tyler said.

Granby fire personnel responded to assist with extrication of three unidentified occupants, two females and a male in their late teens. They were transported by ambulances to area hospitals with what is reported as non-life threatening injuries, Tyler said.

Route 10 was closed in both directions while the North Central Accident Reconstruction Team processed the scene. Detours were posted at East Street for southbound traffic and Mechanicsville Road for northbound. The roadway re-opened about 4 a.m., Tyler said.
